Time to Slow the Pace - Under-do
    December 2009

December is a month when we can easily find ourselves caught up in a "swirl of activity". You just might wake up in January with a big hangover from OVER-DOING.

I first heard this term, "under do" on a DVD by QiGong Master Teja Bell. Needless to say it caught my attention since I've always been an "over-doer."

This past June I went back to the Midwest for a family reunion. As we were leaving the St. Louis airport and driving down Highway 3 in rural southern Illinois, I could actually feel a shift in energy. I remember how surprised I was that I could actually feel this. I realized the energy shift was due to the slower pace in the Midwest. Folks in southern Illinois aren't as tightly-wired as we are in California. I found the shift in energy to be very appealing.

When I returned to the California a week later, I immediately felt the energy changing again. Driving home on I-80 from the Sacramento airport, I found myself swearing at other drivers. Welcome back to California, I said to myself.

Don't get me wrong, there are many things I love about living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have wondered why we have the highest incidence of breast cancer among all women in the world. My friend says it's all the organic food we eat.

I must admit I never noticed this energy shift as dramatically as I did this time. Maybe the fast paced world is getting to me.

Since that trip, I've attempted to live life at a slower pace. My adrenal glands are saying, "We've had enough urgency....no more. The more I slow my pace, the less stress I can handle.

    Beginning a new decade...2010

Each year on January 1, I begin a new journal. I read the journal for the year that has ended, summarize my accomplishments and make note of what I want to focus on for the New Year.

Creating an intention for the year allows me to set a foundation for the year.

I set my course for the year but often God (the universe) has other plans. When I discover that to be true, I try to let go of what I planned and ask The Universe to show me what's really in store for me.

More often than not, (God) the Universe, has much more in mind than I ever envision for myself.

In the last month I've been interviewed by Scot Shaffer from KQED, The California Report, for a show he is doing on the long-term effect of loss on military families. Last Saturday, I was interviewed by two men from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Craig Werner teaches Vietnam-related classes at the university. Doug Bradley is assistant director of marketing and communications at the university. Craig and Doug are doing a book about music and the Vietnam era.

Every time I get a note in the mail or an email about my book, I am moved to tears. It rewarding to know that writing my book not only saved my life, but it helps others with their healing.

I'm writing to let you know that even though our paths and circumstances are completely different; in your writing, I found someone who has gone through what I am going through now.

Your book made me sit up, take notice, and take action. I don't have any medical insurance right now, but I got up this morning, read some more of your book, and made an appointment for some therapy/counseling.

Thank you for having the courage to write your book. Even though our experiences could not be any more dissimilar, your writing as made a difference in my life.

From the bottom of my heart, "Thank You:" for what you have done for me, and what you have done for others. All the best - Keith Manderville 31 years old.
