Expressing ourselves creatively is
very important during stressful times. It allows our empty wells to fill with
water again. It connects us with our higher expression and alters our brain
chemistry.
When we do the footwork to resolve the challenges we are
facing, it's crucial to take time to be in the creative realm.
I'm taking
a 6-week Muse class and I can't tell you the difference it is making in my
mood.
Without creative expression, we get
very dry and barren like the desert.
If you don't consider yourself a
creative person, I challenge you to reconsider.
What do you love to do?
What activity brings you joy? If you hear yourself saying "nothing," I challenge
you to investigate what fills your well.
Your creative self needs an outlet.
Here's some Needs for the Creative Person I received from my creative
coach, Cynthia Morris, who is in Europe.
1. Need for creative space. You may not need as big a space as you think you do. "A room of your own"
can be the corner of a room or simply a table.
2. Need for creative peers.
It's important to have friends who respect and nourish your creative self. It's
a risk to be creative and even more of a risk to share what you create with
others. Find friends who create regularly.
3. Need for creative fuel.
Julia Cameron's book, The Artist Way, suggest Artist's Dates-take
yourself somewhere at least once a week to be creatively inspired. It might be
an art show, a live performance, a museum, or a movie- any activity that feeds
your creative self. But you must do it ALONE.
4. Need for our body to be self-
expressed. We need to remember to take care of our physical bodies by
walking, dancing, practicing yoga, playing sports or whatever gets us involved
with our body. Our bodies are the houses in which our soul live. Treat that
house well.
5. Keeping the Faith. Without
faith in ourselves and our creative pursuits, we will perish. We are given the
desire to create in order to make manifest our connection to the divine. Honor
that connection by doing your creative expression.
6. Living with uncertainty.
Traveling the creative path can make you feel "lost" most of the time. That's
why certainty in other areas of life: home, relationships, income, can help you
have a sense of "being held" while you soar. Have some sense of being grounded
so you can take risks with your creativity.
