On May 10, 1968, Pauline Laurent experienced a devastating loss that would haunt her for the following 25 years. She was informed that her husband, Sgt. Howard E. Querry had been killed in Vietnam. She was 22 years old and seven months pregnant with their first child.
For the next 25 years Pauline had recurring nightmares. She thought she had reconciled the loss; however, in April of 1990, she experienced a major depressive episode. The denial that had been her coping mechanism finally failed.
Following her deepest instincts, she began writing and speaking publicly about her loss. She also began to explore the contents of the box labeled Vietnam that she had stashed away 25 years earlier. Seven years later Grief Denied A Vietnam Widows Story was published.
"Pauline's book makes poignantly clear the price we pay when we hide, deny or delay grief. Yet, following her process and her discoveries about live, loss and healing inspires us and allows each of us the possibility of healing, too." -Judy Tatelbaum, -Author of The Courage to Grieve.
